This online mic test checks the sound your browser receives from your chosen microphone. Watch the input meter, then make a short recording to hear your voice before a meeting, call or game.

How to use
- Start the test and allow microphone access when your browser asks. Select your headset, built-in microphone or another available input.
- Speak at your normal distance and watch the level and waveform. If nothing changes, check the selected input and whether your microphone is muted.
- Record up to ten seconds. The microphone turns off when recording finishes; play the result yourself to check the sound.
Microphone not working? Start with the symptom
- Permission is blocked or no microphone appears
- Allow microphone access for this site in your browser and system privacy settings. Check the cable or Bluetooth connection, then start again. If a previously selected input is unavailable, choose the system default.
- Permission is allowed, but the meter stays still
- Check the physical mute switch, select the intended input and speak at your normal distance. A silent meter only means this page is not receiving a clear signal; it does not establish a hardware fault.
- The recording is quiet, noisy or broken up
- Check the selected input, microphone position and system input level. Change one setting and record again. Browser processing can affect the result; this meter is not a calibrated decibel measurement.
- This page works, but people cannot hear you in a meeting
- Select the same microphone in your meeting app and check its own mute and permission settings. This page and the meeting app may use different inputs or audio processing.
Common questions
Why is there no input even after allowing access?
Check the input selector, a physical mute switch and operating-system input settings. Another application or device connection can also prevent access. Silence in this page alone does not prove the microphone is broken.
Does this test upload or save my voice?
No. Live input and the recording stay in this tab. Recording begins only when you click the recording button. Stop or leave the page to release the microphone; deleting the recording, starting another test or leaving this tool discards the local clip.
Does a successful test mean my meeting app will work?
It confirms input to this browser page only. Your meeting app may use another input, separate permissions or different audio processing. Check that app too. The level meter is relative and does not measure calibrated environmental sound pressure.
Should I hear myself as soon as the microphone turns on?
No. Live input is shown as a meter and waveform without being sent to your speakers. Click Record 10 seconds, then play the finished clip. Recording is limited to ten seconds and is discarded when you leave this tool.
