How to use
- Connect your headphones or speakers, select the output in system settings and lower the system volume before starting. Wear the side marked L on your left ear.
- Play Left channel, then Right channel. Each tone lasts about one second; only the corresponding side should play when stereo output is configured correctly.
- Play Both channels to compare the sound. Adjust the test volume if needed, or stop immediately. Leaving the tool or switching tabs stops playback.
Headphone sound problems: what to check
- Neither side makes a sound
- Check that test volume and system volume are above zero, the site or tab is not muted, and your headphones or speakers are the selected system output. Check the connection before trying again.
- Only one earbud or speaker plays
- Play each channel separately. Check the system left/right balance, cable seating or Bluetooth connection. Try the same headphones on another device to help separate a connection or setting problem from a hardware problem.
- The left test plays on the right
- Check the L/R markings and how the headphones are worn. For external speakers, check the left and right connections and any output routing. The highlighted letter shows the channel requested by this page.
- A left-only or right-only test plays on both sides
- Check system mono audio, spatial effects and mixing settings. These can change channel separation after the browser sends the signal. This page cannot override or automatically diagnose those settings.
Common questions
Does this automatically detect broken headphones?
No. The page sends audio to the selected system output but cannot hear what the headphones actually produce. A completed playback is not a pass result or a sound quality score.
Why can I hear a left-only tone in both ears?
System mono audio, spatial audio, output mixing or device settings may change stereo routing. Check those settings and the L/R orientation of the headphones before judging the hardware.
Where does the sound come from, and is my microphone used?
Your browser generates a 440 Hz tone with a gradual start and finish. No audio file is downloaded, no microphone access is requested and nothing is recorded. The same per-channel signal is used for both sides.
Why is there no sound?
Check the current system output, system volume, site or tab mute settings and the connection. Test volume at zero is silent. The page cannot automatically confirm which physical device you are hearing.
